Every other tool is broken, dead, or can't do the job.
Reddit killed public API access in 2023. Every downloading tool either broke or limped along. Here's what you're stuck with today.
💨

BDFR is dead.

The lead developer disappeared. The project is archived. It requires OAuth2 credentials that Reddit no longer hands out freely. If you manage to get it running, it crashes on rate limits.

bulk-downloader-for-reddit // archived 2023
🚫

gallery-dl skips deleted users.

See "[deleted]" in a post? gallery-dl moves on. Gone. No recovery attempt, no fallback, no second chance. If the account is gone, so is everything they ever posted.

gallery-dl // active but limited
💀

Unddit, Removeddit, Reveddit. All dead.

Pushshift was the backbone of every recovery tool. Then Reddit revoked their access overnight and every tool built on top of it died the same week. People are still searching for alternatives. Nobody has one.

unddit, reveddit, removeddit, pushshift // defunct
This didn't start as a product.
It started as a personal obsession.
Over a decade of manually archiving, organizing, and recovering Reddit media. Watching tools come and go. Watching APIs get locked down. Watching years of content vanish overnight when accounts get deleted. RedReap was built to solve every problem I hit along the way. The deduplication logic. The multi-source recovery pipeline. The automatic RedGifs discovery. None of this exists in any other tool because no one else spent the time to build it.
What RedReap does that nothing else can.
Six core features. Each one built to solve a real problem that every other Reddit downloader ignores.
👻

View Deleted Reddit Posts & Recover Deleted Accounts

When a Reddit account is deleted, most tools give up. RedReap doesn't. It searches multiple archival sources and reconstructs what was posted, piece by piece. Images, videos, GIFs, recovered from the void.

Only tool that does this
🎬

RedGifs Video Downloader & Profile Discovery

RedReap doesn't just grab RedGifs links from Reddit posts. It discovers the linked RedGifs profile and catalogs every video they've ever uploaded, including content never posted to Reddit. Preview, select, and download in HD.

Full profile, not just links
📥

Download Reddit Videos, Images & GIFs from Subreddits

Download media from any subreddit with filters that actually make sense. Sort by top/hot/new, set a minimum upvote threshold, filter by media type, set date ranges. Come back later and only grab what's new.

Incremental sync built-in
🔍

Intelligent Deduplication

Same image reposted to three subreddits? Cross-posted under different titles? Uploaded at different quality levels? RedReap detects duplicates visually, not just by filename, and keeps only the best version.

Visual matching, not just filenames
🔄

Auto-Reap Daemon

Track the users you care about. RedReap monitors them automatically and grabs new content as it appears. No cron jobs, no scripts, no babysitting. Set it and check back when you feel like it.

Set it and forget it
🖥

Zero Config. Web Dashboard. No API Key.

No command line. No Reddit API keys. No Python installation. No config files. Download RedReap, open it, and start. Everything happens through a clean web dashboard running on your machine.

  • Recovery statistics per account
  • Deduplication during recovery
  • Works on accounts deleted years ago

Download subreddit media with precision

Don't download 50GB of content you don't want. Filter first, download second.

  • Sort by top, hot, new, or rising
  • Filter by timeframe (day, week, month, year, all)
  • Set minimum upvote thresholds
  • Choose media types (images, videos, GIFs)
  • Keyword include/exclude filters

Free tools are free until they're gone.

BDFR was the gold standard. Then the developer disappeared and the project got archived. gallery-dl works today, but when Reddit changes their API again (and they will), you're waiting on a volunteer maintainer to care enough to fix it. Pushshift was the backbone of every recovery tool on the internet. Then Reddit revoked their access overnight and every tool built on top of it died the same week.

Free tools don't owe you anything. When the maintainer gets a new job, loses interest, or gets a cease and desist, the project goes dark and you start the search all over again.

RedReap is different because I use it every day. I've been archiving Reddit content for over 12 years. This started as my personal tool, built to solve my own problems, long before it became a product. Every feature exists because I needed it. The recovery pipeline exists because I lost content I cared about. The deduplication exists because I got tired of cleaning up duplicates manually.

I'm not a developer who built a scraper as a side project. I'm someone who has been doing this for over a decade and built the tool I always wished existed. As long as Reddit exists, I'm using this tool. And as long as I'm using it, it's being maintained and improved.

$39/year isn't paying for a download.
It's paying for a tool that will still work next year.
One plan. Everything included.
No tiers. No feature gates. No "contact us for enterprise." You get everything.

Common questions.
Do I need a Reddit API key or developer account?
No. RedReap uses Reddit's public JSON endpoints. No API key, no OAuth setup, no developer application. Download it and it works.
Does it work on Mac?
Yes. RedReap ships as native binaries for both Windows and macOS. No Python installation required on either platform.
Can it really recover content from deleted accounts?
Yes, with caveats. RedReap checks multiple archival sources to find content that was cached or indexed before the account was deleted. If the content was never archived by any service, it can't be recovered. But for accounts that had public visibility, the recovery rate is strong.
Is this a replacement for Unddit, Removeddit, or Reveddit?
Those tools are either shut down or severely limited after Reddit's API changes. RedReap takes a different approach, using multiple archival sources to recover deleted content rather than relying on a single API. It does more than those tools ever did, and it's actively maintained.
How do I download videos from RedGifs?
Add a Reddit username that posts RedGifs content. RedReap automatically discovers their RedGifs profile, catalogs all videos, and lets you preview and download them selectively or in bulk. No manual URL copying needed.
Where are my downloads stored?
On your local machine. RedReap runs entirely on your computer. Nothing is uploaded to any server. Your files are yours.
What happens when my year is up?
Your subscription renews automatically. If you cancel, RedReap continues to work for a short grace period, then asks you to renew. Your downloaded files are never deleted or locked.
Can I use it on two computers?
Yes. Each license allows 2 device activations. If you need to move it to a new machine, you can deactivate one and activate the other.
Does it download Reddit videos with sound?
Yes. Reddit hosts video and audio as separate streams. RedReap automatically merges them into a single MP4 with full audio. No silent videos.
Is this legal?
RedReap accesses only publicly available data through Reddit's public endpoints. Courts have repeatedly ruled that accessing public data does not violate the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (hiQ v. LinkedIn, Van Buren v. United States, Meta v. Bright Data). Users are responsible for ensuring their use complies with applicable laws.
How do updates work?
RedReap checks for updates on launch. When a new version is available, you'll see a notification in the dashboard with a download link. Download the new version, replace the old one. Takes 30 seconds.
Stop losing content.
